Germany’s parcel industry is assuming that this year’s Christmas business will deliver more shipments than ever before. The consulting company KE-Consult commissioned by the Federal Association of Parcel & Express Logistics expects growth of up to three percent in the months of November and December. The forecast assumes up to 445 million parcels to private households. In 2020, the corona effect was significantly greater, with private households increasing the number of shipments by 23 percent compared to Christmas 2019. However, there are still uncertainties: If, for example, problems in the global supply chains have a strong impact and parcels are badly delayed or even worse are not sent, the previous year’s level could only be maintained. Deutsche Post DHL is the market leader in the parcel industry. Larger competitors include Hermes, DPD, UPS and GLS.
