Prague – (DPA)-

The new parliament of the Czech Republic has elected Markta Bikarova Adamova, 37, as Speaker of the Chamber of Deputies.

The leader of the conservative “Top 09” party received 102 votes out of 122 in a secret ballot on Wednesday evening.

It is noteworthy that Bikarova Adamova is the second woman after Miroslava Nemkova to hold this position, which is one of the highest positions in the European Union member state.

A coalition of five liberal and conservative parties has enjoyed a majority of 108 of the 200 seats in Prague’s lower house since parliamentary elections in early October.

Peter Fiala, leader of the Civic Democratic Party, is set to become the new prime minister.

Bykarova Adamova succeeds Radek Vondrachik of the billionaire’s populist “ANU” party and outgoing prime minister Andrei Babis.
