Renault Samsung Motors announced on the 11th that Renault Zoe took the first place in new electric vehicle registrations in Germany last month.

According to data released by German car rental company NextMove, Joee sold 2,209 vehicles in Germany last month, ranking first in new registrations. The EV market share was 7%. Smart Fortwo rose to second place with 2195 units, followed by Volkswagen ID.3 in third place. Tesla Model 3 sold 1,359 units and ranked sixth, while Hyundai Motor’s Ioniq 5 came in ninth with 1,052 units.

Renault Samsung explained that Zoe’s popularity in the European electric vehicle market is based on quality and safety.

In July, the American automobile media Motor One and Inside EV conducted fuel efficiency tests on 18 electric vehicles, and Joe took the first place. The test was conducted in a way of driving about 360 km from Rome to Forli, Italy at 31 degrees Celsius without recharging. As a result, Joe consumed 11.0kW of power per 100km and was the only participating model to be able to drive more than 9km with 1kW.

The Joe, first released in 2012, sold nearly 300,000 units, but there was no battery fire accident. Last year, 10657 units were sold in Europe, ranking first in electric vehicle sales. It is the first model to record 100,000 annual sales in the European electric vehicle market.

“The Renault Zoe is synonymous with safe and reasonable electric vehicles,” said Kim Tae-joon, head of Renault Samsung’s sales and marketing division.
