The National Council for Human Rights and the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights concluded a joint cooperation program to support the capabilities of researchers in the Council in partnership with some executive bodies and civil society organizations, which lasted for ten days.
The program included a number of activities, including holding a training course on the application of the human rights methodology for data and indicators of the sustainable development goals, which targeted training on the indicators of the sustainable development goals and how to apply the various measurement indicators through the human rights approach.
Council researchers from various committees and units participated in the workshop, and a representative of each of the following bodies: the Ministry of International Cooperation, the Ministry of Planning, the National Agency for Statistics and Mobilization, the Permanent Higher Committee for Human Rights, the Institute for Sustainable Development and Governance, and the Arab Organization for Human Rights.
A mini workshop was also held that included representatives of the Commission, representatives of the Central Statistical Organization and representatives of the Council to discuss the model memorandum of understanding prepared by the Commission, which urges national human rights institutions and statistical offices to use it in linking an institutional relationship between them in the frameworks of observation and monitoring of indicators for the implementation of the goals of the sustainable development plan.
The delegation of the Commission and the National Council for Human Rights held meetings with the Ministry of Planning, the National Council for Disability and the Permanent Higher Committee for Human Rights to learn about the various efforts in following up the implementation of the sustainable development goals.
Ambassador Mahmoud Karem had inaugurated the work of the program, stressing the importance of cooperation with the Commission in strengthening the work of the Council and supporting the capabilities of researchers as one of the bodies of the United Nations.
For her part, the Deputy Head of the National Institutions and Regional Mechanisms Section at the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights expressed her thanks to the National Council for Human Rights, and also to the members of the Technical Secretariat for their distinguished effort to establish this program and constructive cooperation that promotes the dissemination of a culture of human rights. And support the capabilities of researchers in the Council.
She added: We provide advisory services and there is cooperation through technical support programs with a number of national human rights institutions, including the Egyptian Council.
She said that this cooperation is very important, based on the belief in the importance of the role of national institutions, which play a major role in ensuring and preserving human rights.
It is worth noting that the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights is one of the main bodies of the United Nations concerned with human rights. It embodies the world’s commitment to promoting and protecting the full range of human rights and freedoms enshrined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
