Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Abdul Latif al-Zayani said on Saturday that Lebanon must prove that the powerful Hezbollah group allied with Iran can “change its behavior” to heal rifts with Gulf Arab states.

In a speech at the Manama Security Dialogue Conference, Al-Zayani added that the solution to the Lebanese-Gulf crisis begins from within Lebanon, with the need to change Beirut’s relationship with the Gulf states.

“We can provide support to find solutions in the future, but after the Lebanese express their desire to change Hezbollah’s behavior… and change the behavior in Lebanon and neighboring countries, and Lebanon’s relationship with friendly and brotherly countries,” he added.

The Bahraini foreign minister stressed that “it is a great challenge for the Lebanese to review their policies with Hezbollah and try to find ways to implement the decisions on the ground,” adding, “We saw Hezbollah threatening the Saudis.”

Lebanon is facing the worst diplomatic crisis with the Gulf states, as a result of statements made by the Lebanese Minister of Information, in which he criticized the Saudi-led intervention in Yemen.

These statements prompted Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Kuwait to expel their ambassadors from Lebanon and to recall their ambassadors there.
