Heavy rains hit 6 governorates..a government statement regarding the wave of bad weather

Major General Mahmoud Shaarawy, Minister of Local Development, reviewed a report from the Ministry’s Operations and Crisis Management Room on monitoring the weather, rainfall and bad weather conditions affecting some governorates, including Dakahlia, Alexandria, Kafr El-Sheikh, Matrouh, Damietta, Beheira and North Sinai.

Major General Mahmoud Shaarawy said that the operations room report indicated that the governorates of Alexandria, Matrouh, Beheira, Kafr El-Sheikh, Dakahlia and Port Said were exposed to heavy and medium rain and thunderclouds, and the rest of the governorates are witnessing stability in the weather.

Shaarawy pointed out that the executive bodies in the governorates, in coordination with the drinking water and sewage companies, are making great efforts to raise rainwater accumulations and remove any traces of it to facilitate the movement of citizens and cars.

And he demanded the continuation of the field follow-up in the governorates and the follow-up of the readiness of the equipment for rainwater suction and the readiness of the crews working on it for immediate dealing, reducing the resulting effects and raising the accumulation of water in the streets, main squares and sub-streets.

The Minister of Local Development also directed to constantly raise the degree of maximum preparedness in the governorates that witness bad weather conditions until stability, and also called on the Ministry’s operations room to follow up on developments in the situation around the clock to quickly deal with any emergency events in coordination with the central operations room in the Council of Ministers.

Mahmoud Shaarawy stressed the importance of continuing continuous coordination between all service and vital sectors in the governorates, especially drinking water and sewage companies, traffic and civil protection departments.

Tips for citizens during the rain

Shaarawy appealed to citizens to be vigilant and to stay away from any trees, advertising banners, lighting poles and high pressure, and to help rainwater suction vehicles move easily, avoid driving at high speeds in cars, and maintain a safe distance.

Major General Mahmoud Shaarawy also stressed the heads of centers, cities, neighborhoods and local units to have a field presence in the streets throughout the day to follow up the operations of suctioning water accumulations and stationing suction cars in places exposed to accumulations to quickly withdraw water to reduce the effects caused by rain and not to disrupt traffic in the streets, in addition to taking measures and necessary measures in this regard.
