On the 23rd, Song Young-gil, chairman of the Democratic Party of Korea, made a statement regarding the death of Chun Doo-hwan, saying, “The Democratic Party is unable to harmonize, condolences, or head of state.”

In a social networking service (SNS) post on the same day, CEO Song said, “I feel anger and regret at the stupidity of not asking for forgiveness for my sins until the end of the news of his death.”

CEO Song said, “The days of May 18th and the days after that, which I witnessed with my own eyes, passed like a lantern. I remember the many deaths during my reign, starting with the coup, and the tragic life experienced by many more democrats. For the heroic spirits who protected democracy in May, it was a must-point for us who are living and breathing in that democracy.”

CEO Song said, “But even that earnest desire can no longer be achieved. The statute of limitations for criminal prosecution has expired due to the end of his biological life, but civil lawsuits, historical condemnation, and fact-finding will continue.”
