The facilitation committee for the development of Historic Cairo, headed by Major General Khaled Abdel Aal, Governor of Cairo, and in the presence of Khaled Siddik, Executive Director of the Urban Development Fund, held a meeting to follow up on the measures taken by the state to develop that area and highlight its aesthetic face, in implementation of the directives of the political leadership to quickly revive and develop Historic Cairo to preserve and restore it. Its vital role in expressing the architectural and urban character of this region.

Major General Khaled Abdel-Aal, Governor of Cairo and head of the facilitation committee for the development of Historic Cairo, indicated that work in the area is progressing well according to the schedule set for development work.

The meeting discussed the executive plans, the timetable for the development project, the coordination process between the concerned authorities, and the necessary steps to overcome any obstacles.

The Governor of Cairo stressed that the general vision of the project is based on preserving and improving the social and economic activity of the urban fabric, and the formation of a new historical tourist destination for Cairo that restores the capital’s luster and prestige.

The Governor of Cairo stressed that the development work of the Historic Cairo area was given great importance by the state, in order for the Historic Cairo area to regain its importance and its touristic status.

The development work is carried out in coordination between the Cairo Governorate, the Urban Development Fund and the Engineering Authority, and includes the area behind Al-Hakim Mosque, Umm Al-Ghulam Street area, Al-Mashhad Al-Husseini Square, Bab Zuweila and Darb Al-Labbana.

The Governor of Cairo indicated that there is a specialized advisory team in the history of the region that undertakes the task of restoring buildings and optimizing the use of spaces, and activities that are not commensurate with the nature of the region will be transferred to the project set up by the state to establish a number of workshops in the north of the craftsmen area in Manshiyet Nasser.
