6.9-magnitude earthquake strikes Qinghai Province, China

A 6.9-magnitude earthquake rocked Minyuan County, northwest China’s Qinghai Province, at 1:45 a.m. Saturday Beijing time.

The epicenter of the quake, with a depth of 10 km, was determined at 37.77 degrees north latitude and 101.26 degrees east longitude, according to the China Earthquake Networks Center.

China’s Ministry of Emergency Management confirmed that a working team has been sent to Qinghai Province to provide support to local residents, inspect and check the disaster situation, secure housing for affected residents, and analyze the trend and results of the disaster.

The earthquake was monitored in a sparsely populated area at an altitude of 3,659 meters above sea level, and no casualties have been reported so far.
