Books – Ahmed Massad:
Dr. Salah Moselhi, head of the Fisheries Authority of the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, revealed the reasons for the rise in fish prices in wholesale and retail, explaining that the first of those reasons are weather fluctuations, not poor production.
Moselhi said in an exclusive statement to “Masrawy,” that the rains last week prevented the continuation of fishing due to strong waves and winds, and thus a decrease in supply, noting that prices will return to normal within days.
The head of the Fisheries Authority added that the most prominent species that have witnessed an increase and are popular or major for citizens are tilapia and mullet, pointing out that fish prices in farms are low, and there must be control over wholesale and retail traders because prices in the second episode of sales rings are doubled.
Moselhi pointed out that there is a great interest on the part of the Egyptian state in fish farming and the development of lakes, as we are currently witnessing the development of lakes Manzala, Bardawil, Edko and Dayrout.
He pointed out that fish farms rank first in terms of production at a rate of 80%, followed by production in lakes by 10.8%, then marine water production by 4.5%, then fresh water by 3%, and finally rice fields with 0.5% of the total production.
