LG Electronics to install OLED infotainment system in Mercedes-Benz electric vehicles

LG Electronics announced on the 12th that it has supplied a plastic organic light-emitting diode (P-OLED)-based infotainment (IVI) system to the 2022 EQS of Mercedes-Benz electric vehicle, a German automobile manufacturer.

The infotainment system supplied this time is in the form of an instrument cluster, central information display (CID), and passenger seat display (CDD) integrated into three screens. The driver and front passenger can use each screen independently.

It is also characterized by the fact that the entire dashboard is implemented as a curved panoramic screen by taking full advantage of the characteristics of P-OLED as it is free to change its shape. Technologies such as curved glass molding, surface treatment, and display bonding were applied. A touch interface, ultra-high resolution, and thin bezels are also advantages.

For safety, if a frontal collision is detected, it is designed to minimize head injuries caused by internal equipment such as the instrument panel. It also passed the ‘frontal crash test’ that corresponds to ‘protection of occupants from internal impact’ of the US Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS).
