Washington – (USA):

The United States has renewed its rejection of the Russian request to ensure that Ukraine does not join NATO in the future, saying that “the decision on this matter is exclusively for Ukraine and the thirty member states of the alliance and not for other countries.”

“It’s too early to say whether the Russians are serious about taking the diplomatic path,” White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki said during a press conference, commenting on the negotiations in Geneva.

She added, in a statement published by the White House on its website today, Wednesday, that it is necessary to wait to see “if they are ready to negotiate seriously or if they will use the talks as an excuse to say that diplomacy cannot succeed.”

“There is a set of discussions that could fall into a diplomatic context, but it is up to the Russians to decide whether they take a serious position on it or not,” Psaki said.

Yesterday, Geneva hosted 7.5 hours of negotiations between Russia and the United States, within the framework of the strategic dialogue, which dealt with the file of security guarantees, on top of which was the Russian side’s request to NATO to ensure that it does not expand to the east, which the US side absolutely rejects.
