Member of Parliament: The texts of the law no longer keep pace with cybercrime

Representative Martha Mahrous, Under-Secretary of the Communications Committee in the House of Representatives, said that the texts of the articles of the law were unable to keep pace with electronic crimes due to the increasing incursion of technological means of communication.

She added, during her interview with the media, Amr Adib, on the “Al-Hekaya” program, broadcast on MBC Egypt, this evening, Monday, that Article 25 of the law does not define the crimes of electronic extortion.

Representative Martha Mahrous called for the article to be re-included with technological concepts and a clear punishment for the crimes resulting from electronic extortion, starting from wiretapping and installing images to the stage of publishing on the Internet, in addition to tightening the penalty of extortion that may result in suicides.
